Modern Healthcare’s awards and recognition program honors leaders in healthcare
Dr. Eric Topol, Director of Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI), is among 300 nominees for Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list. The program honors individuals in healthcare who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact.
Dr. Topol is a practicing cardiologist at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA. Prior to joining Scripps and founding STSI, he led the Cleveland Clinic to become the no. 1 center for heart care and started the Lerner College of Medicine. While in Cleveland he spearheaded the discovery of multiple genes that increase susceptibility for heart attacks, and directed several worldwide clinical trials to advance the care for heart disease.
As a researcher, Dr. Topol has published over 1100 peer-reviewed articles, with over 160,000 citations. His principal scientific focus has been the genomics of coronary heart disease and heart attack. In recent years, he has expanded his research to incorporate genome editing, biosensors, and new digital tools to foster individualized, or “precision”, approaches in medicine.
