KL2 Clinician Scholar

Hashim Khan, M.D is a Cardiologist and joined the Scripps Translational Science Institute in 2013 as a KL2 Clinical Scholar and Cardiovascular Research Fellow. He completed his medical studies at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University in Chicago followed by internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital-Northwestern University. After completing training in internal medicine, he worked as a clinical instructor of medicine and practiced as a hospitalist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for one year. He moved to San Diego to pursue fellowship training in Cardiovascular Diseases at Scripps Clinic-Scripps Green Hospital and graduated from the program in 2013.
During his residency training he participated in research projects evaluating the effects of right ventricular pacing on left ventricular systolic function and also the effects of novel experimental drugs on ventricular diastolic function. As a cardiology fellow, his research project has compared a new pocket mobile echocardiography device with a traditional echocardiography machine and helped validate its use in clinical care. As a KL2 clinical scholar his research interests lie in furthering clinical trials in digital and wireless medicine as well as innovative medical education. He is currently involved in additional echocardiography research with an emphasis on appropriate and cost effective use of cardiac imaging modalities. He is also implementing a trial to understand the clinical utility and cost effectiveness of a mobile, remote patient monitoring system in intensive care units.
After completion of the clinical scholars program, Dr. Khan will be pursuing advanced fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology and plans to continue validating the clinical usefulness of innovative medical technologies in his career as a clinician.
