iDoctor: Could a smartphone be the future of medicine?

In an interview with NBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyder, STSI’s Dr. Eric Topol discusses the great potential that mobile devices such as smartphones have to revolutionize the future of medicine.

Devices demonstrated in the NBC’s Rock Center interview –

The first device shown was the cell phone ECG made by AliveCor. This device has been approved by the US FDA for use by licensed medical professionals to record, display, store, transfer and evaluate single-channel electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythms.

The second device was a handheld ultrasound for use by physicians called the Vscan by GE Healthcare.

The third device demonstrated is made by Dexcom. It is not commercially available at this time. You can also ask your personal physician for more information about the latest blood sugar tracking technology.

The fourth device, called the Visi Mobile, is made by Sotera Wireless.
