KL2 Clinician Scholar (STSI), Internal Medicine Research Fellow (Scripps Green Hospital)
Dr. Bitar is a resident in the physician-scientist track of Scripps Clinic’s Internal Medicine Residency Program and recently joined as a KL2 Scholar at STSI. Dr. Bitar has a passion for drug development/design and hopes to continue this line of work with the Institute.
Originally from Aleppo, Syria, Dr. Bitar emigrated to the United States in 1987 and graduated from Canisius College in 2003 with a BS in Biochemistry. During that time he conducted research in medicinal chemistry, developing polyamine compounds with activity against a unique enzyme to trypanosomes. Prior to joing the Scripps Residency Program, he was a part of the Medical Scientist Training Program of the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Dr. Bitar completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry with the novel synthetic route of a naturally occuring compound with antitumor activity, Roseophilin.
